A linking movement. A coordinating movement involving arms, head and legs. One of the oldest movements in ballet, originating in the dances performed at the French Court. From fifth croisé, demi-plié chase to fourth while opening arms through the gateway to (front to left arm overhead) point tendu croisé back, close back foot to fifth, arms in second, then chase to the side with right foot with a body weight change and point Tendu left foot and close left foot front croisé. Repeat the whole movement to the other side. In general, the head is turned to the shoulder on the same side as the leg that is in front. A widely used step and good for the coordination of arms head and legs. Can also be performed to the front {en avant}, to the back {en arriére}, and to the side {A La Seconde}.
