Extension
(eks-ten-syawn)
Pronunciation
The term used to describe the ability of a dancer to raise and hold their extended leg in the air. All girls try for 180° in arabesque, or a la seconde. It does take effort and lots of practice but it is well worth the work. It's not as important for boys as they have other things to work on, like turns in the air, beats, jumps, and partner work. Extension as in arabesque penché.
