Piqué 2

Literally, pricked or pricking. A step out onto demi-pointe or pointe with a straight knee. Can go in any desired direction, like first arabesque. Also can mean a sharp picked up action of the foot, like battement piqués, in an open position, sometimes called piqué posé {poh-zay}. This sharp action is good for your pointes and is a good step to do at the barre. Piqué battement en croix.
